Note that Age of Empires I does work fine with Windows 7 SP1 in a virtual machine, so I guess it might be due to some conflict with my graphic card's drivers (NVIDIA GeForce GTX660M). What else can I try to solve the issue (without having to run Age of Empires 1 on a different OS, and without having to buy anything else as I have already bought the CD over 15 years ago)?
I tried to change the monitor's resolution to 800圆00 (which is the default resolution of Age of Empires I): In dxdiag I checked that all my displays have DirectDraw enabled: I followed the instructions printed on DirectDraw or Direct3D option is unavailable but it didn't work (and they went written for Windows XP, not Windows 7). So you better disable aero themes before you start the game. But aero themes in windows 7 has conflicts with aoe2/aoc. Chest Key location I am currently playing Psychonauts 2, looking forward to play Age of Empires 4. Answer (1 of 2): The original aoe2/aoc will work just fine on windows 7, even on windows 10. I tried to change the compatibility mode and run as administrator but it didn't help: 2 Localizations 7 VR support 8 Issues unresolved. Make sure that your video cardĪnd driver are compatible with DirectDraw. Windows 10 is used by millions of people worldwide, but just like with many other operating systems, sometimes there are problems with older software. After the installation whenever I tried to run the game ( Empires.exe) I get the following error right at the beginning:Ĭould not initialize graphics system.
I also installed and AOE 2: Age of Kings and although it loads, it takes about 3 minutes from program launch to game controls. I reinstalled/profiled Conquerors with the same results previously discussed (ie please insert correct CD). I installed Age of Empires I on Windows 7 SP1 圆4 Ultimate. I reformatted my machine to do some testing with Win 7 圆4.
